It’s tough to find a non-dairy milk option in the supermarket that isn’t loaded with questionable ingredients. That’s why I’ve turned to making my own my own non-dairy milk at home. I’ve found it is also tastier and more economical.
What’s Good About Hemp
Being a “weed,” hemp grows very fast in tight packs. It utilizes less land and less water than many other crops. Hemp is also naturally resistant to most pests, decreasing the need for pesticides. It makes me feel better milking a bag of hemps seeds rather than a bag of almonds, which require some intensive water resources to grow.

Hemp seeds are also “perfect proteins,” containing all nine essential amino acids. They are also high in fiber and fatty acids.
Aside from the nutritional benefits, I think hemp milk just tastes good. It has an earthy flavor which I really enjoy. I’ve also found it to be richer and creamier than other homemade milks.

And, to answer your question, hemp milk won’t get you high. Hemp seeds contain absolutely no THC (the active compound in marijuana) making it perfectly safe and legal.
How to Make Hemp Milk
Unlike most nut milks, hemp requires no presoaking overnight. Simply combine the dry hemp seeds with water and blend.
You don’t even need to necessarily strain it. If you do, you can use the leftovers in smoothies or baked goods.
If you are wondering what I used to strain the milk in this video, it was a nut milk bag, and it’s an amazing alternative to cheesecloth (note this is an affiliate link): Pro Quality Nut Milk Bag – Big 12″X12″ Commercial Grade – Reusable Almond Milk Bag & All Purpose Strainer – Fine Mesh Nylon Cheesecloth & Cold Brew Coffee Filter – Free Recipes & Videos
