While I am a lover of simple, roasted vegetables in almost any form, I occasionally feel the need to spice things up a bit.

That’s when I turn to my new best friend, harissa.

I can’t think of a simpler way to add incredible flavor to almost any roasted veggie.

I find harissa pairs particularly well with broccoli. The sweet, nutty flavor roasted broccoli combined with the earthy spice of harissa paste creates a fiesta grande for my tastebuds with every bite.

Yes, Harissa Roasted Broccoli has really spiced up my life. It really makes me wanna zig-a-zig ah.

What is Harissa?

Harissa is a North African hot pepper chili paste that is widely used in Moroccan cuisine. While it is a bit on the spicy side, I think it has a rich and versatile flavor that can be used in a variety of ways.

These days, you can find harissa in the international section of most grocery stores (my favorite brand is Mina). If you are feeling adventures, you can even make your own harissa paste.

How to Make Perfect Harissa Roasted Broccoli

The key to perfect roasted broccoli is to cut the florets into equally sized bite-sized pieces so it all roasts evenly.

And don’t waste those stems! Simply peel away any woody skin and then slice them into thin slivers. They’ll roast up perfectly fine, and are incrediblly delicious.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the harissa paste with some olive oil, lemon zest and salt. Add the broccoli and toss until it is well coated.

Spread the broccoli out on a parchment lined baking sheet and roast in a 425°F oven for about 20 minutes until it is tender a slightly browned.

Garnish the broccoli with some sesame seeds and enjoy!
